Why We Built Realm ID & The Principles Behind It

Introduction

We come from a background of developing software to automate business processes—starting with contract management for enterprises, then adding digital signatures, and generally removing the friction from back-office tasks.

A decade ago, we set ourselves the goal of creating an application that would make applying, signing, and contracting as simple as “one click.” To achieve that, people needed to own and maintain their own data, connect securely with others, and exchange forms or contracts in a trusted way.

The Core Idea

Realm ID was built to simplify life and reduce admin. While government-issued identities and verification services play a role, our focus is on empowering individuals and organisations with a tool that’s easy, secure, and universally usable.

The Principles of Our Design

  • Sovereign Identity: Users own and control their data, choosing what to share, for how long, and with whom.
  • GDPR & Global Compliance: Data exchanges are encrypted, compliant with privacy laws worldwide.
  • Security First: Unlike centralised databases that are frequent targets of breaches, Realm ID is designed to minimise risks by decentralising data control.

Realm ID embodies trust, security, and user empowerment—principles we’ve held through 25 years of working with organisations and their data.
